BSP School Kriket blast commences in NCD
Cricket PNG has hit off its BSP School Kriket Blast with the first one- day competition for 2020 at Amini Park, Port Moresby, on Tuesday 30th June 2020.
In keeping to the COVID-19 protocols, less than a hundred Primary School aged students from June Valley and Boreboa Primary Schools were part in the first of three, one-day competitions.
Cricket PNG Regional Coordinator Mickey Tamarua says the one-day competitions in NCD will be three weeks apart. Central province will be the first for the other centres to have the competition next week.
Bank South Pacific over the years has been supporting the School Kriket Competition in the grooming and development of upcoming cricket talents and has done so again this year with a sponsorship of K400, 000 towards the competition.
This is my first time to join the program – coming here as a teacher has generated my interest in the sport and we will be pushing this going forward in our school. Thank you BSP for sponsoring such a program.
– Boreboa Primary School Physical Education Teacher Salome Karpai
13-year-old Atelynne Gehora was among the girls who also took part in the competition. The Grade 5 pupil was thankful to BSP for supporting the programs where girls can also pick up a bat and a ball and refine their cricket skills.
I’ve been playing cricket for a while, although some of my friends are not here today, I’m happy to be out today to play again after sporting activities were suspended after COVID-19 SOE.
– 13-year-old Atelynne Gehora, June Valley Primary School student
BSP Corporate Sponsorship Manager Amelia Minnopu says it is pleasing to see the safe resumption of the BSP School Kriket Program return back to schools after the SOE.
The preventive measures in place by Cricket PNG to minimize risk of infection ensures the students, teachers and participants adhere to the modified COVID-19 safe program and protocols in place.
We are confident that we will meet our agreed targets for 2020 and will continue to support the programme this year through our national branch network and have selected branch managers and staff actively participate in the local kricket blasts and clinics.
