A security firm owner has been arrested and charged under the Cyber Crime Act for allegations of secretly recording voice conversations of other people, with the use of an electronic device, and sharing them without their consent.
Alexis Tam, who is the owner of Rapid Response Securities, was yesterday arrested and charged for the offence by Waigani police in Port Moresby.
According to the charge sheets, police allege that Tam, 46, who is an Australian citizen, between August 15 and 29, 2019, had used his cell phone, to record voice and text messages of conversations between an Australian businessman, Jeffery Kennedy, and a Malaysian national, Adam Cheah, in Port Moresby, before he then allegedly disseminated them to third parties without Kennedy’s consent.
Police allege, through a complaint laid by Kennedy, that Tam’s sharing of the secretly recorded voice conversations, between him and Cheah had injured his reputation. The matter is expected to appear in court this week.
