Normal classes for tertiary institutions outside of NCD
Port Moresby – Tertiary institutions outside of the National Capital Distict (NCD) will continue normal classes unless directed by the pandemic controller, according to Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) Secretary Prof. Jan Czuba.
Professor Czuba, in the Post Courier (July 29), said the suspension of classes is only for two weeks and for institutions in the Port Moresby area.
The shutdown is only for two weeks and is currently in the Port Moresby area and so all the institutions of higher learning are directed by the controller not to have face-to-face classes for two weeks, and after two weeks we will assess the and will see what we can do.
– Prof. Jan Czuba
Czuba said while the suspension is only for the NCD, other provinces should continue normal classes but practice COVID-19 safe measures including physical distancing, mask wearing and hygienic practices.
Prof. Czuba also said the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) was going well with 5480 students already benefiting from it.
The program is going extremely well…more will benefit because they are still applying.
– Czuba
The pandemic controller, Mr David Manning, issued a letter to the DHERST Secretary directing the suspension of all contact classes for tertiary institutions in the NCD until August 12.
