Rigo students assured of scholarship by MP
Scholarship assistance for Rigo students will continue this year, said Rigo MP Lekwa Gure.
The ongoing district scholarship assistance comes in affiliation with the Central provincial scholarship scheme of which many parents have commended as helpful.
“Every year we sponsor 250 tertiary students, not with the full school fee but K1000 per student,” Mr Gure said, adding that it’s an ongoing five year development plan.
He said the Rigo school fee assistance, unlike the provincial assistance which offers K2000, will instead give K1000 as reimbursement only to those who have already paid the full amount of their children’s fees.
The prerequisite is to get the parents to pay their fees upfront and bring their receipts with the completed forms and we reimburse K1000.
He said the idea is to stop parents from misusing funds given for their children’s education purposes.
When you look at the average fees these days, it’s between K5000 and K7000, so the fact that we are assisting the parents with K3000 that’s about 50 per cent of the tertiary fees and that’s a big assistance to parents.
Any parent wishing to be assisted in the Rigo school fee assistance component should check Mr Gure’s office located at 6 Mile.
It’s any Rigo student that goes to any approved institutions, and when I say they are approved, they must be approved by the Department of Higher Education.
Institutions include universities and schools like David King College of Ruatoka and Sacred heart Teacher’s College and other colleges around the country.
