6 Reasons to Shutdown Your Desktop

6 reasons to shutdown your desktop
I have been constantly sending reminders to all the staff in my organization that they should get into the habit of shutting down their workstations after work.
In these reminders I constantly emphasize the needs or reasons to shut down the computers,
6 Reasons to shutdown your desktop.
- Like all machines, a desktop needs to have time to ‘cool off’. Unfortunately, many do not consider this and leave their desktops on 24/7.
- Shutting down clears programs and files in memory allowing the desktop to have a ‘fresh start’ once it is booted.
- Global warming and conservation of energy is now a very serious issue. Leaving your desktop on draws on unnecessary energy. You should also switch off other peripherals when you are not using the desktop, including the printer, monitor, mouse etc.
- For some computers infected with viruses, worms, etc, shutting down ensures that damages are limited. These malicious programs are unable to cause further damage when the desktop is off.
- Shutting down the computer helps prolong the lifespan of your computer by reducing unnecessary wear and tear on moving parts like the CPU fan, hard disk, PSU etc.
- Save money. The desktop, if constantly on, will consume power regardless of whether it’s being used or not. Shutting down means saving money on the electricity bill (unless you get free power).
With these reasons in mind, let’s hope you shutdown your desktop the next time you are not using it.
