F248 Error on a Kyocera FS-6525 MFP – Driver Issue
Introduction
If your Kyocera FS-6525 MFP is halting printing jobs after just one or two pages and showing the F248 error, you’re not alone. This error usually points to a communication mismatch between your computer and printer—often caused by an incompatible or incorrect driver. In this post, I’ll explain what the F248 error means and walk you through a simple, effective solution to fix it.
What Does the F248 Error Mean?
The F248 error indicates a communication error—basically, the printer isn’t able to understand or interpret the data it’s receiving from the PC. This often happens when:
- The driver in use is incorrect or incompatible
- The printer and computer use mismatched protocols or languages
- A universal driver is being used by default, but it’s not fully compatible
In simpler terms: you’re sending instructions the printer doesn’t “speak.”
Step-by-Step Fix: Use the Correct Driver
1. (Optional) Update Printer Firmware
Before changing anything, it’s good practice to check whether a firmware update is available for your Kyocera unit. While this is optional, it can help resolve subtle compatibility issues.
2. Check Which Driver Is Currently Installed
- Open Control Panel on your computer.
- Go to Devices & Printers (or sometimes Printers & Scanners).
- Right-click on your Kyocera FS-6525 printer and choose Properties (or “Printer Properties”).
- Go to the Advanced tab.
You’ll see a dropdown that shows which driver your system is currently using.
3. Switch to the Correct Driver
- If the default driver might be something like a “Universal Driver (KX Driver for Universal Printing),” that can often be too generic for full compatibility.
- Check whether the manufacturer’s recommended driver is already listed in the dropdown.
- If yes: select it and apply the change.
- If no: download the correct driver from Kyocera’s official website and install it, then come back and select it in the Advanced tab.
After selecting the correct driver, you should test by sending a print job. The F248 error should no longer appear.
Extra Tips & Troubleshooting
- Multiple PCs or Workstations: If the F248 error shows up only from certain computers, verify that those machines are all using the correct driver protocol.
- Networked Printers: For network setups, ensure the printer’s IP and driver port align correctly (i.e. the port settings match the printer’s network address).
- Case Example: One user encountered the F248 error on a Kyocera 7550ci while using mixed Windows 7/8 workstations. The culprit turned out to be a misrouted job or incompatible driver on one workstation. By changing driver ports and IP assignments, the error was resolved.
- Driver Version: Even if the “correct” driver is installed, ensure it’s the latest version (check Kyocera’s support site).
Conclusion
The F248 error on a Kyocera FS-6525 is almost always due to a driver communication issue. By installing and selecting the correct, model-specific Kyocera driver in your computer’s printer settings, you can fix the error quickly.

I have experienced many f248 errors, but one I just looked at was baffling. Kyocera 7550ci…Multiple workstations with a mix of Windows 7 and 8. With the network cable plugged in, the machine starts to receive data then codes out. I checked every queue on every computer, even the hp, savin, etc…No print jobs in any queue. Changed 7550 IP address and changed all the driver ports to match. Print works fine. Changed another Savin printer to the old kyocera IP…Problem job printed. Located owner and it was a windows 8 user which I had already check the queues on. I have no idea where the print job was hanging out!!
