PNG Power launches Scheme on Grid Connection of Rooftop Solar PV Systems in PNG
PNG Power today announces the launch of its pilot project on Grid Connections of Rooftop Solar PV Systems in Papua New Guinea.
The aim of the pilot project is to initially allow two percent (2MW) of peak demand for electricity in Port Moresby to be generated from rooftop solar. Under the pilot project, there will be limited connections which will allow PNG Power to carefully manage and monitor the impacts on the grid and the behavior of the individual systems so that the next phase or expansion of the can be planned accordingly.
Initially, the target customers are the commercial and industrial sector customers that have a maximum demand for electricity of at least 300kVA. The pilot phase will run for 12 months.
To implement the pilot project, PNG Power hereby issues The Notice on Grid Connections of Rooftop Solar PV Systems in Papua New Guinea. The object of this notice is to facilitate the connection of Rooftop Solar PV Systems to PNG Power’s distribution networks. The Notice outline:
- Introduction to Grid Connections of Rooftop Solar PV Systems in Papua New Guinea
- Types of solar connections allowed
- Eligibility for phase 1 of the Program
- Tariffs and other commercial terms
- Installation and testing
- Application and implementation procedures
Interested participants are encouraged to obtain a copy of The Notice and the 2-page application form from the PNG Power’s website via link: https://bit.ly/33vUSsi
PNG Power with support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will host an information dissemination workshop for interested participants on the 4th of December, 2019 in Port Moresby.
To participate in the workshop, please send your request to Roy Daggy at RDaggy@pngpower.com.pg and Vera Lama at VLama@pngpower.com.pg, with a copy to Yvonne Sarufa at ysarufa@ifc.org.
The workshop will give interested customers the chance to ask questions on the scope of the trial and the application and connection process to participate in the scheme.
PNG Power with support from IFC is leading the work on the Pilot project. This initiative under the IFC’s energy projects in PNG is guided by donors, Australia and New Zealand under the PNG Partnership.
