Samsung Galaxy S4 is coming in 2013
Apple is boasting record sales for the iPhone 5 and they have more to celebrate considering the legal victory against Samsung will have severe repercussions on the newer models of smartphones the South Korean electronics giant will be making. However, while this may have drenched the flames, the ambers are still alight as the Korean Times announced the latest series of the Samsung Galaxy brand – the S 4 – only days after the launch of the iPhone 5, for February 2013.
The new model, while not using the title ‘the iPhone killer’, is still set to challenge Apple’s dominance with long-term evolution (LTE) capability, with the screen expected to reach 5 inches using organic light emitting diode (OLED) display and Google’s Android operating system (OS).
The S4 will be Samsung’s flagship into the United States (US) market. According to CNN, market research firm IDC, the Korean giant has a 30% while their bitter rival Apple has a 16% share in the global market. However, these figures are reversed in the US market with Apple firmly in the lead with 31% of the local market while Samsung follows closely with 24%. The rest is shared among the smaller companies.
Meanwhile Apple has requested for a permanent ban on the sale of 8 Samsung smartphones ranges in the US. 87.5% of the phones Apple is seeking to ban are part of the Galaxy line. Federal judge, Lucy Koh, will hold a hearing on December 6 to consider the request.
Samsung is also punching back at Apple by asking them to pay more for their processors which are made in Austin, Texas. This might also have implications on the prices for iPhones.
