iPhone 5 sets new sales record
AT&T has stated that the iPhone 5 has sold faster than any previous versions of Apple’s top selling smartphone. CNET reported the network saying that preorders have set a record on its first day. However, the American network giant has not released any official numbers yet; information normally reserved for Apple but TechCrunch has reported over 2 million sales; twice more than the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 5 was announced on Wednesday (12 September) and preorders were available by Friday. There have also been reports that many carrier sites were overwhelmed and struggle to stay online. Even AT&T went down for a couple of hours after the smartphone went on sale.
The first batch of iPhone 5 to come out have been sold out and delivery times has been pushed back to as far as October. Apple has responded by saying that they have been blown away by the customer response. However, this is not the first time the makers of Mac have responded in this way. The sales of the iPhone 4S also prompted such a response after hitting over the 1 million mark in its first day of sales.
Preorders for the iPhone 5 cane be done online via Apple Store or through your local network providers.
Apple is predicted to sell between six to ten million units this month with a mammoth estimate of over 49 million smartphones to be sold in the fourth quarter leading up to Christmas.
The Apple iPhone 5 comes with global 4G LTE coverage, an improved A6 processor, the new Lighting dock connector and many new features.
