Siaguru being investigated by Police

Former University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) Vice Chancellor, Professor Philip Siaguru is currently under investigation by Police for mismanagement, according to Post Courier. Â
This was revealed by Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (HERST), Pila Niningi, in response to questions by Rabaul MP, Dr Allan Marat recently in parliament.Â
Minister Niningi said the issue was now a police matter referring to Siaguru’s mismanagement of K12 million advance which was paid directly to a contractor who was supposed to build the university’s library.Â
You and I both agree that funds have been misused. The recovery of these funds, of course, will take time.Â
– Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Pila Niningi.Â
Ninigi also acknowledged that the funds were misused and that the incomplete building was an eye sore and his ministry would complete the long overdue project once funds are available.Â
Dr Marat also questioned the role of Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Secretary, Fr Jan Czuba, at the university’s council.Â
In response, Minister Niningi said Fr Jan had resigned from his role as a council member due to his relationship with the former VC who was sidelined in 2015.Â
