NICTA to bring in cyber-crime experts

The National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) will be bringing in cyber-crime experts to train local law enforcement agencies in the country, according to The National (16 June 2017).
NICTA CEO Charles Punaha said on Wednesday that due to the limited capability locally, experts will be brought in to train locals, and introduce the latest programs used by law enforcement in tracking offenders.
They will be able to pinpoint using computers where an offense has been committed and track back to the original device.
Punaha also said an internet exchange point (IXP) has also been established which would allow local caching for sites like Google and Facebook making it easier for authorities to manage abuse. He said at the moment authorities have to apply for information from counterpart countries where online services are being hosted.
He said legal authorities in host countries will then send an order to service providers to identify offenders.
Meanwhile, under the new cyber-crime legislation NICTA is only assisting police with technical advice.
