Telikom PNG’s fibre link expected to be restored by end of June
Telikom PNG’s PPC-1 fiber link in Madang is expected to be restored by the end of the month. According to a media release by the communications company, restoration of the link is expected by the 25th of June, 2017.
The fault was detected on the 2nd of June, 2017 after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake recorded 90km northwest of Madang. Telikom Media Unit released a statement saying:
The fault has since been isolated to a break in the cable at an estimated distance of 658 metres from shore. Telikom engineers are working closely with the owners of submarine cable, TPG in Australia to carry out restoration works.
Meanwhile, all traffic has been redirected to APNG-2 link between Port Moresby and Sydney.
Restoration of the link is expected to take between 7 – 10 days or more considering unforeseen weather conditions.
