PPC1 under-sea cable down
Internet users may be feeling the browsing service going a bit slow. Well, that could be due to (Pipe Pacific Cable) PPC1 sub-sea fiber link going offline recently.
According to Telikom PNG, data services have rerouted to an alternate route and internet services have been restored. They also advised that the situation is beyond their control.

TPG, the operator of the PPC1 cable have advised that it will take at least a month before the service is fully restored. According to ZDNet, preliminary investigations have found a fiber fault about 4,652km from Guam at a depth of more than 2km.
The transmission engineering team, in collaboration with infrastructure vendors, completed preliminary investigations and have found a fiber fault approximately 4,590 kilometers from Guam. The nature for the fiber fault has resulted in an outage to the entire PPC-1 cable system. TPG has started to work with our maintenance contractor to understand when we can mobilize a repair ship to the specific location.
Currently there are two sub-sea fiber links connecting Papua New Guinea (PNG) to the outside world, the PPC1; which comes to an exchange at Madang from Guam and, APNG2; which connects via the exchange at Ela Beach from Sydney, Australia.
