Apple is claiming the Galaxy Nexus a copycat of the iPhone
In a separate court case in San Jose, Apple is claiming that Samsung Electronic’s Galaxy Nexus should be banned in the United States (US) because it copies key features from the iPhone including the voice control Siri.
The case is separate from the on-going legal battle between the smartphone giants on the physical features of their devices. However, this case is about the software features and could drag Google into the muddy waters.
According to Bloomberg, Apple’s lawyer, Mark Perry of Gibson Dunn, said that this was a ‘beat-Apple strategy’ by mimicking a successful product. However, Samsung’s lawyer, John Quinn of Quinn Emanuel argued that the sale of Nexus was ‘minuscule’ and had no impact on Apple’s market share.
This patent battle involves a search engine and the voice control Siri like feature which Quinn is arguing that many people are unaware of.
The Galaxy Nexus was launched last December and was Google’s showcase smartphone. It was also the first device to run on Android 4.0 commonly referred to as Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). However, it is not as popular as the iPhone 4S or their Galaxy SII.
