COVID-19 TV and Radio Show Begins to Give Factual Information
Prime Minister James Marape will be on the National Broadcasting Corporation Radio and Television as well as EMTV, TVWAN and other radio stations tomorrow night (Monday 4th May 2020) to discuss COVID 19 and related economic and social issues.
The program started on Friday night with the Police Minister Bryan Kramer and Police Commissioner and SOE Controller David Manning, Health Minister Jelta Wong and acting Secretary and Deputy Controller Dr Paison Dakulala.
It continues tonight with Department of Education Officials discussing the start of the secondary and primary school which begins tomorrow Monday 4th of May.
Controller Manning said this is an important initiative of the SOE Joint Agency Task Force to manage the misinformation and counter misleading information going to the public especially in the social media.
The Prime Minister will on Monday discuss in general the government’s approach to the COVID 19 pandemic and the its efforts in addressing the effects of the pandemic.
This program will go on during the SOE on TV and radio stations throughout the country to air this important program

He urged citizens to watch and listen to this program as it is important people fully understand the COVID 19 pandemic and to remain calm while the government carefully assesses the development of this new virus affecting almost all countries, with many deaths and seriously affecting respective economies.
Mr Manning has sent letters to relevant government departments and agencies to take part in this program to discuss what they are doing in regard to their approach to handle COVID 19 as it will not go away.
The radio and television program will be broadcast every evening from 7.30 pm and is hosted by NBC broadcaster Steven Mase and award winning experienced senior regional journalist Joseph Ealedona.
Mr Manning urged the media to report with responsibility and caution on the COVID 19 issue as it is sensitive and one that affects all people regardless of status, sex and race and an issue that can cause great distress and anxiety.
As the World celebrate Media Freedom Day I thank all journalist and media workers for your tireless work in reporting this pandemic. You are amongst front line workers and while you do your job, consider your safety at all times as it your defense against spreading the virus to your family and loved ones. We will not restrict or censure your job as speculated by some but we will only urge you to be responsible and work with us in our combined effort to keep our country safe.
