Port Moresby faces water and power shortage
Disgruntled Koiari landowners have shut down the Sirinumu dam which would possibly cause a shortage of water and electricity to Papua New Guinea’s capital, Port Moresby.
Earlier in the evening, the country’s energy supplier PNG Power Ltd released a statement saying that landowners had shut the dam at noon, and there was only a 6 hour supply of water to the hydro turbines before the valves would be shut.
They advised that the supply of electricity would be disrupted by 6pm and water would also be affected later in the evening.
Consumers are also advised to ensure they have backup power and lights and water.
For more information, contact please PNG Power Ltd’s national call centre on (+675) 7090 800 or (+675) 7500 800.
As an added bonus, I’ve included an audio track from PNG artist B-Rad who does a great job in telling how the situation will be if the landowners decided to stop to the water supply.
