Teacher writes technology skills handbook
Grace Memorial Secondary School students in Wau are expected to benefit from an appropriate technology handbook created by a teacher to supplement their learning materials.
Home economics teacher Halide Zuhukec is working on the handbook to help students on recipes and skills on catering, sewing, and arts and craft.
The booklet will also be used to train women in villages and churches in Wau, Morobe.
Zuhukec is compiling the booklet after attending an appropriate technology skills training at Bangolum village in Mumeng by women from Biak in West Papua through a partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran church in Mumeng district.
Zuhukec was one of the two teachers among more than 100 women from Wau-Bulolo who attended the training.
I will come up with a handbook for students to learn during Home Economics class, so they can help their communities. Students will pass the information and skills to women in villages. My school is going to benefit a lot from it.
– Halide Zuhukec, Home Economics Teacher, Grace Memorial School
I will also use the booklet to train other teachers in the school.
Zuhukec was asked to assist in teaching Home Economics four years ago when there was no teacher for the subject.
“I’m not a home economics teacher. I depend a lot on books to deliver lessons,” she said.
