How to Unlock a Digicel PNG Huawei E5832 Wi-Fi Modem
The Huawei E5832 mobile Wi-Fi modem is a pretty cool device and is relatively cheap at Digicel. However, it is locked into the network and can be costly to use. Fortunately, you can always unlock it (yourself) or you can get an expert (like me) to do it for you.
Here is a simple instruction on how to unlock your Huawei E5832 modem and enjoy the benefits of changing networks whenever it suits you.
Okay, now before we go any further into the dirty details, let me point out that there is no guarantee that this will work with your device and you are taking a risk here.
Before You Begin
Before you begin, just make sure you have everything you need at hand.
- Huawei E5832 Wireless Modem (with USB connector). Make the sure the battery is fully charged.
- Computer or laptop;
- You need to download and install the software tools listed below:
- DC Unlocker Client. Make sure to download the latest version.
- Phone System Analysis Software (PSAS)
- Text editing tool. Notepad is inbuilt into Windows so you don’t need anything expensive.
- SIM card from another network. I’m testing this on a BeMobile SIM card I bought at the recent Trade & Safety Expo at Holiday Inn for K5.
Step One: Get Device Recognized
The first thing you need to do is get the computer to recognize your device. This means connecting it via USB without the SIM card. Install the drivers.\
Once you’ve completed this, you can start the unlocking process.
Step 2: Insert SIM
Remove the device and insert a SIM card that is not allowed to be used in the device. The LED display should show “Invalid SIM.”
Connect the modem to the computer and it should identify your device. Confirm by opening Device Manager in Control Panel and ensuring that a Huawei device can be viewed under Network adapters.
Step 3: Preparing to Mine the Data
Now we are going to retrieve vital data from the device. This is done with the help of DC Unlock Client.
Run DC Unlock Client and ensure that:
- Huawei modem is selected under Manufacturer;
- Auto detect is selected under Model.
- Click the Search button and let the program do its magic.
Copy the data generated onto a text file and save it somewhere for future reference. I save mine to a folder called Huawei Unlock Project.
Also take note of diagnostic port on the program interface. In my example it’s COM7
Step 4: Mining the Data
With the DC Unlocker Client running, open the PSAS, select Hardware Forensics and click on Use Mobile Ports. This will open the QC Com Diag Window and you have to set the proper settings.
In the Serial Com Port choose the corresponding port. In my example it was Com 7 so I’m going to select port 7. However, there are two Com 7 port. Choose the one with USB usually the second one. Then click on the Diag Port tab.
Select “Read EFS” and input 600 in Max Page. Also click the Alternative Method checkbox and click “Let’s Go” to start gathering our data.
Save you file in a location with previously save information obtained from DC Unlock Client.
Once this is complete, you can now close the programs.
Step 5: Finding Gold amongst the Dirt
Locate the saved file and open it using Notepad or other alternative text editors you may have installed. Unfortunately, the data will look like garbage, but hidden among that garbage, is an 8 digit code that will unlock your Huawei E5 device and open up your opportunities to a higher level.
Press Ctrl + F and type “profile”. Somewhere toward the end of the document you will find an 8 digit code between different profiles. Copy that number and save it as a text file with an appropriate name like “HuaweiE5UnlockCode.txt” etc.
Step 6: Unlocking Your Huawei E5 Modem
Open a browser and navigate to http://192.168.1.1/indexSl.asp, copy and paste your 8 digit code into the space provided and click Apply.
If you can’t get this page then you should login at the index page. The default password is “admin” without comas.
Final Note
The process I have just shown resets the modem to its factory default settings. This means that you will have to configure profiles for different network providers that you want to use.
I will post how to configure profiles for your unlocked Huawei E5832 modem at a later date.
