Specifications and features of the Samsung Galaxy i8530
While Apple may have won the legal proceedings on certain patent issues on Samsung’s range of smartphone products, they have nothing on Samsung’s latest smartphone product, the Galaxy i8530 Beam.
The Galaxy i8530 Beam runs on a 1GHz Cortex-A9 dual core processor and has a Mali-400 graphics processing unit which powers its built-in nHD projector. It uses Android OS 3.2.6 (Gingerbread).
If you are a business executive who is constantly making presentations then this phone just be made for you. The projector beams out to a maximum 50 inches which is pretty good considering its size.
It also has support for multiple media file types like MP4/DivX/WMV/H.264/H.263 (video) and MP3/WAV/eAAC+/AC3/FLAC (audio) plus editing capabilities for photos and documents.
The phone measures 124 x 64.2 x 12.5 mm in dimension and weighs in at a grand total of 145.6 grams, has a built-in nHD projector and touch screen controls and supports 2G (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) and 3G (HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100) networks. It also has support for WiFi.
The display is a TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors within a 480 X 800 pixel area. The smartphone also supports vibration, MP3 and WAV ringtones with support for a loudspeaker and 3.5mm audio jack and FM radio.
The Galaxy i8530 Beam can support up to 32GB of external microSD memory and has 8GB internal memory capacity plus 768MB RAM. The phone is powered by Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery and has approximately 20 hours talk time on 2G and 9 hours on 3G.
Unfortunately, this phone does not come with out of the box Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) which would have been a boost. However, plans for an update to ICS is underway.
You got to hand it to the Koreans, they never give up. The first attempt at a projector phone (i8520) was a failure. However, they got back up, took a step back, and corrected their mistakes to come out with another version of the projector smartphone. Let’s hope they learn to make it more affordable this time.
