How to Change Files with *.dm Extension to an Installable Nokia File
If you have tried the instructions in my last blog entry about downloading from Ovi Store, you may have downloaded some files with double extensions having *.dm extension at the very end, for example ‘F-Secure-Antitheft_52159.sisx.dm’. In this format, you will be unable to install in your Nokia phone. Now simply deleting the .dm extension will not solve this problem. Here I will show you how to change the file to its original format.
The only tool you need for this is a good notepad editor. Notepad++ is a great tool and can be downloaded here.
Steps
- Once you’ve install Notepad++ on your computer, locate the file with *.dm extension. Right click and select ‘Edit with Notepad++’. (refer Fig 1)
- When the file is open you will notice code like the one in figure 2. Delete everything before the z and then save the file.
- Press F2 or right click on the file and select Rename. Delete the .dm extension and save.
- You will be prompted to if you are sure to change the file name. Click Yes.
If you have done everything right then the icon should change to a Nokia application icon and Nokia PC suite should now recognize your file.
Note that steps 3 and 4 are interchangeable.
