Communications minister issues arrest orders on social media abusers

The Minister for Communications, Hon. Timothy Masiu has issued a directive to the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) to identify and arrest anyone abusing social media during the declared State of Emergency (SOE).
According to Information Centre for COVID-19 website, the minister said there was an increase in abuse of social media at the time and the government will not hesitate to identify and prosecute those involved in the deliberate dissemination of misinformation.
He made the remarks following a warning by the SOE Controller, Mr David Manning, that persons intentionally spreading misinformation are breaking the law.
Meanwhile, Masiu has also stated that two (2) officers from government telecommunications companies are under investigation for unspecified allegations using the fake names.
