Microsoft is taking a major step toward changing its image starting with its operating systems right down to its free online services. First, Messenger merged with Skype and now it looks like Hotmail has been killed off with Outlook taking its place.
The free Hotmail service has now been phased out and re-branded into Outlook.com. The transition began in February when migration testing of moving users from Hotmail to Outlook began and according to Microsoft’s Dick Craddock, the number of users has doubled since.
“Coupled with the growing organic excitement for Outlook.com, this has pushed us to over 400 million active Outlook accounts.”
Outlook.com addresses will be synced better with Microsoft’s other online services like the Bing search engine and the cloud storage system, Sedative.
