Mobile Game Review: Spider-Man Unlimited
Mobile games have become popular with the progress of technology and affordability of the smartphone, and there are countless of games out there (free and otherwise). However, today I look at the Spider-Man Unlimited; based on our favorite fast talking nerdy web slinging superhero.
Help Spider-Man swing around and fight bad buys.
The game released by Gameloft is based on the comic series and allows players to play as different versions of their favorite spidey who swings, runs around collecting vials and ISO-8, and kicking baddy arse.
The main challenge is to defeat the Sinister Six; a collection of Green Goblins, Vultures and other baddies from alternate universes and their henchmen. Along the way, players must also accomplish certain tasks and win rewards that can be used in aiding their quest.
The game is not that big with the installer at around 25MB and the rest around 75MB making downloading via a 3G connection is relatively smooth, although a bit longer than WiFi or 4G.
There are three modes in the game; Events, Issues and Unlimted Mode.
The Spider-Man Unlimited mobile game can be played in 3 main modes.
The Events are time based and players try to achieve their goals within the allowed time. The Issues are, on the other hand, based on comic issues and players get to play episodes in each issue with the target of meeting set goals. The very first issue is called “Night of the Goblin”. Rewards are also given for every goal achieved.
Unlimited Mode is the core component of the game with Spidey having to run, swing and fight his way through henchmen and bosses for experience points (XP) and vials. These are then used to increase character levels and unlocking abilities.
Some modes require an online connection.
The core component of the game can be played offline. However, the other challenges require an online connection and online registration using either Facebook or Google+. Unlocking or recruiting different versions of Spidey also requires a connection to the internet.
The game also has the cool feature of ranking and leveling up Spidey characters.
The first allows the threshold for individual characters level to be increased until it reaches the maximum allowed. This can only be done with the same Spidey. The later fuses different character and increases their experience points. However, the used characters will be deleted and you may have to recruit more. I tend to use the more common Spider Man character for this.
The game is freely available for both Android and iOS.
