Police to take back PNG from the district level says Tokura
THE NEW police barracks at Gusap in Ramu marks the beginning of bringing police back into the district level says Acting Commissioner of Police Francis Tokura.
Acting Commissioner Tokura made this statement during the official opening of the K4.6 million police barracks funded by New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) under its tax credit scheme that were opened at Gusap in Ramu, Madang, on Thursday – 18 July 2019.
The barracks has a capacity to house up to 80 police officers, boasts a double classroom, an administration block, an armory and a helipad.
Mr Tokura said to meet the Marape-Steven government vision to become a rich black Christian nation, the RPNGC as a government organization can achieve this by providing a peaceful, safe and secure environment.
He said the wonderful initiative taken by NBPOL in building this barrack under its tax credit scheme will enable the RPNGC to achieve its objectives in maintaining police presence at the district level.
Without law and order at district levels, people will continue to migrate into urban centres thus, placing more strains on the already limited government services, employment, and business opportunities available in these areas. In addition, NBPOL Chief Executive Officer Mr Jamie Graham said the barrack at Gusap is an example of how the tax credit scheme can work successfully in the spirit of public, private partnership.
Mr Graham said the NBPOL will continue to deliver such projects where NBPOL operates from as law and order is key for economic growth.
Acting Commissioner Tokura thanked NBPOL for the wonderful initiative and acknowledged its continued support to law & order in Morobe and other parts of the country.
I am urging policemen and women who will be occupying this barrack to look after it.
Acting Commissioner Tokura said, adding that police will do its best to make sure that services are delivered at the district level.
