Secondary school student-teacher ratio a concern in WNB
The teacher-student ratio in West New Britain (WNB) high schools and secondary schools is a big concern due to an increase in the number of intakes every year.
Provincial education examination coordinator and supervisor, Dominic Kumar, said that the student to teacher ratio has actually gone past the required number.
He said out of the 4800 grade eights who graduated last year, only 2700 were selected to continue their studies.
Provincial education adviser Paul Laure said despite having the five new high schools built, the number of students passing out every year was still high.
This shows that the province is now doing academically well as it continues to climb and improve in the examination results and ranking.

He said that the provincial cut-off examination rate is 70 per cent. The province has three state secondary schools — Kimbe Secondary, Hoskins secondary and Bialla secondary. This also includes the private Caritas secondary, Kimbe international and other private institutions.
