Solomon Islanders gain Australian qualifications
A total of 22 Solomon Islanders were awarded Australian qualifications in seven technical and vocational programs, during the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) graduation ceremony in Gizo, on 20 November 2018.
As Australia’s flagship technical and vocational educational training (TVET) program, APTC has provided over 1500 Solomon Islanders with internationally recognised Australian skills and qualifications for a wide range of vocational careers.
The new graduates received certificates in commercial cookery, electrotechnology electrician, diesel fitting, plumbing, hospitality, youth work, leadership and management, and team leader skillset.
While delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, Premier of Western Province, Honourable David Gina, congratulated the graduates on their achievement, and encouraged them to become exceptional role models in their workplaces, homes and communities.
The graduation also included 14 women who successfully completed the innovative Team Leader Skillset program, which was delivered by APTC for the first time in Solomon Islands.
Hon. Gina acknowledged the support of the Australian Government, particularly in the Western Province, adding that these initiatives meant success and growth for the Solomon Islands economy.
He also congratulated the APTC on entering into phase three of its journey.
We commend and support APTC’s tremendous role in delivering high quality, internationally recognised training that ensures Pacific Islanders have improved employment outcomes regionally and abroad while supporting greater investment in skills training and higher quality TVET delivery across the Pacific.
Premier of Western Province, Honourable David Gina
In his closing remarks, APTC Country Director Mr Donald Malasa also congratulated the new graduates and urged them to continue discussing innovative ways of utilising their skills through the APTC Alumni network.
The new graduates now join a network of 13,000 Pacific Islands women and men that make up the APTC Alumni.
