Steve Jobs resigns as Apple boss
Steve Jobs has resigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple Inc., the billion kina technology company he co-founded in 1976 with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in his family garage. He has been on medical leave since January 17 for an undisclosed condition. Jobs, 56, underwent a liver transplant a couple of years ago and also surgery for pancreatic cancer seven year ago.
He has also named Tim Cook as the new CEO. However, that did not stop market shares falling 5% after the news broke. The charismatic man had led the company back from near bankruptcy after rejoining in 1996 and bringing it to its current status. He had been relieved from the company back in 1985.
The Guardian posted a full copy his resignation on their website. The letter does not disclose reasons for his abrupt resignation but the LA Times writes that change was anticipated.
A press release from Apple has stated that Jobs has been elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors
