BPNG Email Scam Alert
Than Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) has issued a warning to the general public about an email scam that is in circulation.
The emails, which claims to come from BPNG, requests recipient to pay fees upfront or order some unknown transaction to be cleared, and recipients are promised to benefit from the suspected cleared funds.
The emails are usually followed by requests for more payments to meet certain costs to speed up clearing process. However, they are scams and the BPNG also warned recipients not to reply.
THE PUBLIC IS WARNED NOT TO OPEN SUCH EMAILS AND ANY LINKS IN IT, AND TO RESPOND TO THEM. MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT MAKE ANY PAYMENT OR DISCLOSE DETAILS OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AND PERSONAL CONTACT AND ADDRESS.
BPNG also advises recipients of any such emails, in particular those that mention the Governor of Bank of PNG, Central Bank of PNG, Bank of Papua New Guinea and BPNG, or anything unusual and suspicious to contact the bank’s ICT Service Desk on telephone (+675) 322 7408 or email servicedesk@bankpng.gov.pg
