Girls in ICT Essay Competition 2014
The Girls in ICT has just got interesting and a bit challenging with this year’s competitors required to identify, interview and write an essay on an influential woman in the community who is involved in the ICT industry.
Participants are asked to ‘make every attempt to interview a Papua New Guinean woman.’ However, if circumstances do not allow, then an expatriate woman who is aware of the constraints faced by females in the country will suffice.
Information that essayists should try to answer are why and how their subject got involved in the ICT, the level of qualifications they have, the constrains and benefits they face as females, why they would encourage girls to get involved and if they can be used as role models for girls considering a job in the industry.
The theme for this year’s essay is “Empower and Encourage Girls and Young Women to Consider Studies and Careers in the Growing Field of ICT” which should have a minimum of 1000 word, with a cover page that should include the issue discussed, name, grade, school, and province and contact details.
The competition, conducted by NICTA with the support of Digicel, is open to females in grades 10 – 12 only and opened today. It will stay for three weeks and closes on April 18. Winners will be announced on the Girls in ICT Day, April 24, which was first observed in the country in 2012
The prizes, like last year, will be a new notebook courtesy of Digicel given to the best essayist for each region with an overall winner.
Entries can be submitted via email to essaycomp@nicta.gov.pg, faxed to 300 4829 or mailed in an A4 envelope to:
