Girls in ICT Essay Competition 2013 announced
The winners of the “Girls in ICT Essay Competition 2013” have been announced on the NICTA website.
The overall winner for the competition goes to Molly Boiyo in Lae Secondary School in Morobe.
Gail Sapak of Jubilee Secondary in Port Moresby took out the spot for the Southern region while Shaline Philip of Fatima secured the Highlands region and Tracy Paisat of Malabunga Secondry in Kokopo took out the top placing for the Islands region.
The Momase region went to Amandah Harper of VunaBosco in Vanimo.
The girls win a laptop each courtesy of NICTA.
Meanwhile calls have been made for more girls in ICT by the Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Hamadoun Touré.
“We need to get more girls involved in information and communications technology,” he told members of the European parliament in Geneva emphasizing the need to address the growing imbalance in the ICT sector.
