NICTA’s amnesty deal
Papua New Guinea’s National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) is calling all illegal and unlicensed ICT operators to apply for proper licensing and is granting an amnesty period up til the 31st of October.
In a press release by NICTA Chief Executive Officer, Charles Punaha, is urging all parties requiring approval to immediately advise NICTA on the “status of their systems as required by the National ICA Act 2009” which includes contractors and suppliers, VSAT, radio systems, aeronautical systems, ship radio systems, broadcasting, cable TV, cabling, controlled customer equipment, PABX, Maritime Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency and Global Maritime Distress Safety System Certification holders.
Their inspectors will be conducting random inspections throughout the country and establishments or installations deemed illegal after the amnesty period will be penalised accordingly.
NICTA is also encouraging the general public to report illegal radio or communications installations on telephone 303 3200 /303 3223 or email licensing@nicta.gov.pg /typeapproval@nitca.gov.pg. The public in the Momase and Highlands regions should contact the regional office in Lae or phone 4727341 or email lbasiou@nitca.gov.pg. All reports are confidential.
