Surge protection is better than Curc
ICT equipment can be very expensive and if your livelihood depends on it then protecting it is a necessity. The leading cause of equipment failure in Papua New Guinea is probably power surges.
This is mainly due to the service provided by the local supplier and thus relying on them to provide clean electricity all the time is risky. Instead, providing your own protection is the best option.
The best thing you can do to protect your equipment is to use a surge protector. If and when a surge occurs, the protector gets the ‘hit’ and immediately cuts off power to the equipment leaving the equipment unscathed.
Surge protectors can be bought from any electrical and IT stores for about a maximum of K50. However, be sure to buy something that is up to our standards. Some protectors designed for other countries may not be able to handle the load and you would end up with an item that needs constant replacement or may not be able to do what it was originally intended for.
Protection is better than cure; taking your equipment for repairs can be costly while investing in a surge protector is a lot easier and more economical.
