How to Repair Outlook With a Corrupted OST File
Recently, a user in my local network started having problems with his Outlook.
Every time he tried to open Outlook, an error would appear saying the .ost file was not an ost file. This happened after a blackout/ power outage so I naturally assumed the .ost file was corrupted.
A quick search on Google resulted in Repair an .ost or .pst file in Outlook in Microsoft Office website. Unfortunately, the repair tools suggested did not work for me. After a few attempt I decided to do it my own way.
Here is how I did it.
- I restarted Outlook and waited for the error message to appear. When it did appear I copied the exact file director displayed ‘drive:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.ost.
- Then I closed Outlook and pasted the directory into the explorer bar drive:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook.
- This opens the Outlook folder containing the .ost file.
- I then renamed the current Outlook.ost file to Outlook1.ost.
- I also did the same for the .pst file.
- Restart Outlook and a new .ost and .pst file will be created and everything should work as normal.
