NICTA launches K50,000 scholarships for girls in ICT
Papua New Guinea’s National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) has taken the initiative to promote “Girls in ICT” a step further by introducing a K50,000 scholarship which will be rolled out early next year.
The scholarship was launched yesterday to celebrate the Girls in ICT Day (April 24) by Communications Minister, Jimmy Miringtoro with the aim of encouraging young girls to take a career path in the communications and technology industry.
Post Courier cites the Minister stating that “one of the impending reasons, among many others, for more girls studying ICT courses is the high cost of courses at tertiary levels.”
Information on the scholarship can be found at the regulatory body’s website (www.nicta.gov.pg).
Meanwhile, winners of the 2014 Girls in ICT Essay competition have been announced on the site. They are Fiona Kepa from Kerowagi for the Highlands, Henrish Wartovo from Malagunga for the New Guinea Islands (NGI), Jenny Kimat from Marrianville for the Southern, Eleasha Yalehen of Bugandi for the Momase region.
