Configure Proxy Settings on a Mobile Device
If you’ve got WiFi in the office, you can connect your mobile devices directly to the web. However, if your network is sitting behind a proxy then a little bit of configuration is required. Here is how you can configure your mobile device to use a proxy.
For Android
Please note: I’m using my Samsung Galaxy SIII (I9300) as an example. The same procedure can be applied to any other Android device.
The first thing you need to do is to get connected to a WiFi access point. Then press and hold on the connected network for a few seconds. This should bring up a box with the options to Forget network or Modify network config. Choose the later.
This will open the network configuration settings for your network. Check the Show advanced options and then choose Manual for the Proxy settings.
Now enter the proxy details and you should be set.
For a proxy server that requires authentication like ISA or TMG then try the following format in the password box user:password@proxyserver. I guess the format is pretty self-explanatory.
For iOS
Configuring a proxy on an iPhone 6 is way simpler than on an Android. This is because there are options already there for a username and password.
Following the same way a proxy is configured on an Android device, go to Settings and connect to a Wi-Fi network. Once that it done, tap on the i (refer to picture below) and the configurations settings will show.
Simply scroll down, select Manual and then enter the specifications. If your proxy requires authentication the enable it and enter your credentials.
Once you’ve done that then you are ready to go.
