Students arrested for occult practice
Kokopo – More than 80 male students were arrested by East New Britain (ENB) police after they were caught practicing the occult while intoxicated with alcohol and drugs, The National and Post Courier reports.
It is reported that the majority of students involved are from Malabunga Secondary while there is one each from Boisen High School, Warangoi High School and Sunrise Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE) respectively.
According to the police, the group was discovered after two young girls were robbed after trying to deliver food to their boyfriends who were in the group.
The National reports that the students were caught at Mamapua beach between Butuwin and Kokopo Secondary allegedly in the middle of ‘worshiping‘ a young man.
According to Post Courier, the majority of students were charged with loitering and released on K100 bail while six (6) were charged for being in possession of illicit drugs and alcohol. Meanwhile, it is also reported that a senior education official who was present at the police station said this was not a new thing.
The occult practices involving students have been an ongoing issue especially in the urban schools.
