Controller issues new measures on COVID-19
Controller of the National Pandemic Response and Police Commissioner David Manning today released new measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. The Nine measures include the following:
- Revocation of all previous measures;
- International travel;
- Domestic travel;
- Provincial coordination;
- Burial of deceased persons;
- Customs duties;
- COVID-19 testing;
- COVID-19 surveillance and testing, and;
- Business and social.
Mr Manning said whilst calls have been made for stronger measures including a total lock-down of the nation’s capital to mitigate the spread COVID-19, the negative impact of such measures on the people had to also be taken into consideration.
At the end of the day I feel that the responsibility has to be passed onto the people themselves. After all such measures are for the peoples’ benefit and health and they must willingly and actively play a role in this exercise.
We have for the last three months consistently been sounding out messages of health and hygiene practices that can help stop the spread of the virus. The people have to be responsible and seriously and consistently practice these health protocols.
Businesses, schools, public motor vehicles, restaurants, offices, everyone must make it their business to ensure compliance. For instance the bus driver and his boss crew must have PPEs on and hand sanitisers, do temperature checks, ensure physical distancing and ensure passengers wear masks before getting on the vehicles. The same with shops, schools, churches, sporting venues and so on.
People must take ownership of the new normal.
– Mr Manning
