Two robbery suspects arrested by city police
TWO SUSPECTS involved in a robbery at Port Moresby’s Boroko shopping centre are now in police custody after they were arrested and charged by members of the NCD Armed Robbery Squad on November 4.
The suspects identified as Kaia Pidik, 44 of Latlat village, Gazelle, East New Britain province and Benson Bomaga Gompa, nicknamed Bana were both arrested at separate locations in the National Capital District.
NCD Central Commander Acting Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie (Jr) said Bana and Pidik were allegedly amongst a gang of seven men armed with guns who came in a car, held up two Asians at the Daisy mini mart in Boroko and escaped with K34,000 in cash on September 17.
Mr Wagambie said investigators were tipped off and after mounting a surveillance caught and arrested the two suspects. They have been charged and detained.
The Commander said undercover detectives arrested Pidik at a compound in 3 mile before rounding up Bana that same day at Saraga settlement in 6 mile.
Mr Wagambie commended members of the Armed Robbery squad for relentlessly pursing and apprehending the suspects adding that more arrests are expected to be made soon.
Bana and Pidik are facing separate charges of armed robbery under section 386 (1) (2) (a) (b) and (c) of the criminal code and are expected to appear in court soon.
