10 Reasons to Use Zorin OS
I recently stumbled on Zorin OS while trying to look for a Linux alternative to Windows 10. I had been using Microsoft’s operating system (OS) for a while but I did not have a license and I just did not like the idea of being pushed into using certain programs.
Anyway, since switching to Zorin OS; an Ubuntu based operating system, I have found it has everything you could want and more. So here are 10 reasons why I’m sticking with it and why you should start using it.
- 1. It’s affordable – although Zorin’s core OS comes free, I decided to purchase the Ultimate Edition which cost me £17. The money is just a token of appreciation for the hard work by the developers because what I got would have cost thousands more.
- All-in-one – another great thing about the edition I bought was that is came as a complete package containing all the essential software tools like a word processor, spreadsheet, database and even graphical tools like GIMP. It also came with educational tools.
- Ease of use – Zorin OS is made with beginners in mind and has a superb interface and will be easy for a Windows users to navigate and use.
- WINE – installed in Zorin OS is WINE; an emulator that allows users to use their favorite Windows products. This comes handy especially when trying to play your favorite PC games.
- A ton of Games – speaking of games, Zorin comes preinstalled with a variety of games like Airstrike, Sudoku, Trigger and my favorite Xonotic.
- Media center – Zorin also comes pre-installed with Kodi which allows you to use it as media server. Now, there’s nothing more to say about this.
- Security – Zorin allows you to encrypt your hard drive without paying for any additional software. It also comes with a built-in firewall and the threats of virus is very low. This gives it a thumbs up in my book.
- Compatibility – the OS has been designed to be compatible with most files and moving your documents over will be a breeze with no additional extensions or plugins needed. This is both for audio, video and office documents.
- Beautifully designed – the interface is beautifully designed and has a feel that is something between a MacOS and Windows. However, it feels and responds faster.
- I can’t think of anything else – okay, I said it – I can’t think of anything else to add. These 9 points cover everything about Zorin OS that I like. Some are broad and cover a lot like security etc. However, its better you discover for yourself.
Anyway, below is a video by DistroTube who shares their first impression of the OS and review.

I leave you with a quote about self discovery attributed to Fola O’Martins
Self-discovery often happens when we move out of our comfort zone and change the norm.
