Keep Track of Your Personal Finances for Free
Keeping track of your personal finances is essential in this modern day and era, unless you are extremely wealthy and can afford to pay someone to do it for you. For the rest of us, doing it ourselves is a must, and fortunately you don’t need to spend money to do it.
Of course, you can download templates in Microsoft Excel but that only provides a limited functionality.
There are countless of free accounting applications you can use to keep track of your personal finances. In this post, I reveal two free applications I personally use.
MoneyManagerEx
First up is MoneyManagerEx; a free application that allows you to keep track and consolidate multiple accounts. It also allows tracking of assets and other investments. There is also the option of creating repeat transaction. This allows automated record updating. However, one of the best features is the available reporting templates.
Another bonus feature of MoneyManagerEx is the budgeting template, and there are also versions for Android and iOS.
GNUCash
The other program I’ve used is GNUCash. It is a free version accounting software which I can only equate to MYOB.
Now, unfortunately, I’ve found this program a bit too complicated for me. However, it could just be the answer for MYOB savvy people who cannot afford the license. It has the added advantage of being able to track transaction details including vendor, client and even employee information.
For me, MoneyManagerEx is the one I found easier to use. However, for those with much more intricate needs, GNUCash provides a good alternative.
Anyway, if you have the need to keep track of your personal finances, or just want to try these free programs then feel free.
