Opposition against 100% sale of EMTV to Telikom PNG

Telikom PNG’s acquisition of local television broadcaster EMTV through its parent company Media Niugini has been questioned by the Opposition, according to the Post Courier ( February 13, 2015).
Opposition leader, Don Pomb Polye, said television is an important mode of communication and is worried that the objectivity and independence of the station’s programs could be compromised with the government’s involvement.
Mr Polye is urging the Telikom PNG board to review its decision and said it was economically unjustifiable for the government to involve in any business. He said;
Any government in the world is primarily obliged to provide necessary services like electricity, communication, transport, infrastructures and other development to accelerate economic activities.

The Opposition leader believes public-private partnership is the way forward for state investments.
