NICTA warns shops to be compliant
The National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) is giving stern warning to business houses after illegal radio transmitters were found and confiscated.
According to PNG Today, NICTA’s manager for Enforcement and Compliance, Gabriel Nakau, said officers have issued warning letters to shops selling these items. He added that there would be consequences if they did not comply with regulations.
It is believed that most of the shops selling these illegal radios are of Asian origin.
In the late 90s similar warnings were issued by police after it was discovered that a certain handheld radios were able to pick up the radio frequency used by law enforcement agencies which allowed criminals to monitor police movements in the city.
This led to the ban of the specific type of radio.
