Watch IT! The best is yet to come…
They used to say you could tell a lot about someone by looking at their watch. For example, divers and pilots preferred the Rolex because they actually used various functions on the watch.
The watch is much like a handbag is to ladies fashion. However, in recent years, this time telling device has fallen out of fashion with the introduction of personal electronic gadgets, but the future is not so bleak.
In the last couple of years, the advancement of technology has allowed it be downsized, and thus a revitalization of the watch – the smart watch.
According to Wikipedia, the smartwatch is a computerized wristwatch with the functions of a PDA. This allows it to do some (not all) of the functions that you currently find on your smartphone. Not surprisingly, major gadget players are already getting a share in the time.
The most famous is probably the Pebble; an e-watch that can be connected to an iPhone or android via Bluetooth with the ability to customize its apps. Unfortunately, it does not work with Blackberry and Windows phones.
Then Samsung has also come up to unveil its own Galaxy Gear to a rather negative crowd. Officially unveiled on Wednesday, the watch has already received not so promising reviews from Endgaget and ZDNet. However, it comes equipped with a 1.9 megapixel camera which is far more than what is already on the market.
Not surprisingly, Samsung’s biggest rival is also trying to cash in this wearable technology fad. Already, there are rumors flying in cyberspace that the iWatch is Apple’s latest project.
TechRadar reports that over a team of 100 designers are working on a wristwatch-device that may perform some of the task of an iPhone or iPad. Unfortunately, analysts have predicted a release in late 2014.
Anyway, wearable technology is taking giant leaps with a possible future where people go around wearing Google glasses and Samsung Galaxy Gear wristwatches and walk the streets. However, we are only in the early stages. The best is yet to come.
