How to Optimize Your Picture Files for Search Engines
Images are a great way to attract readers to your site and in the blogging and website business, it’s all about getting readers. However, you can also optimize your picture files with tags to get the most out of search engine traffic.
Here are some tips you can use to optimize your picture files and attract natural traffic from search engines.
Appropriately Name Picture File
Rename your picture file to something appropriate. For example, pictures taken from digital cameras and phones would be named according to standard formats like date, time, etc.
This is okay, if you can see the pictures. However, search engines cannot see pictures and thus have to rely on other means like the name to figure out the content of the image file.
Tagging Picture File Properties
In order for your picture files to be more visible to search engines, you need to tag them with the appropriate information i.e., title, name and other basic information.
In Windows you can do this by right clicking on the image file, selecting properties and then clicking on the details tab.
You can then add information that is appropriate for the picture file.
HTML Tagging
After inserting images into posts and pages, we sometimes forget that additional information can be tagged into the HTML code to describe the picture in more detail for the search engines to see.
The most commonly used is the “alt” tag.
