Is Microsoft Superstitious?
Isn’t it strange that Microsoft Office 2010 is listed as office14 while the last release is called office12 (MS Office 2007)? What happened to office13, if any?
An article published in Australian PC magazine titled “Microsoft to skip unlucky 13” suggests that Microsoft has been infected by the Triskaidekaphobia because there is no other explanation.
Is it a marketing drive? Or is it because of some kind of superstition? Other more prominent bloggers in the blogger-sphere have also raised this question. MSDN Channel 9 posted a video explaining the phenomenon.
The avoidance of the number 13 is not something new among business professionals. There are examples of business avoiding the number 13. In many elevators and buildings, the 13th floor is not indicated. This is basically done to accommodate the superstitious.
So my verdict on the question? Microsoft has become superstitious and will avoid all products with the number 13, remove all mirrors in their toilets for fear of someone accidentally breaking them and their fire escape exit will be fitted with a slide rather than stairs. They might also install a security system to track any black cats within their vicinity.
