Minister puts telecommunication companies on notice to register users
Finance Minister James Marape has called on telecommunications companies Digicel and bemobile to register their SIM cards and users. This comes after two bomb threats were made to the Vulupindi Haus recently.
The first threat was made to the Department of National Planning and Monitoring last Friday and the later was done on Monday to the Department of Finance. Both departments are housed in the same building, Vulupindi Haus.
Both threats turned out to be hoaxes. However, this has renewed calls for procedures to curb the rampant abuse of mobile phones.
Marape said as a leader of Government Business, he will have the process fast tracked.
The threats disrupted business for both departments including Treasury.
