Installing Skype on Zorin OS 12.3
I recently came across Zorin OS and found it to be a great alternative to Windows. It looks and feels great but the edition I downloaded (Ultime) did not come with Skype. Now, having this is a major communication tool with my team, I decided to download and install it myself.
In this post, I share my experience.
The first thing I tried was installing it using the Software Control Panel. This is a nice tool the developers of the OS have installed to make the experience as painless as possible. However, I had an issue with my – it kept stalling – so I tried the old fashioned way.
Downloading Skype
So the next logical thing to do was download Skype. Now, when I clicked on the download link, the site automatically identified my OS and presented the right link.

Now, from here you can lick the download link and it should start downloading. You could also download using the Linux terminal [wget https://go.skype.com/skypeforlinux-64.deb]

The file is around 70MB and download time will vary depending on your internet speed. I had to wait 15 minutes for the download to complete.
Once the download is complete, you can begin with installation.
Installing Skype
Now, one thing about Zorin is that they have make it very easy to use – and installation is just like Windows. How great is that!?
The software installer makes it very easy.

About Zorin OS
Zorin OS is a Linux based (Ubuntu) OS designed for newbies to Linux. According to DistroWatch
it has a Windows like graphical user interface and many programs similar to those found in Windows.
As someone who is using Zorin OS for work, I found it to be the best alternative and probably the easiest Linux distro. I purchased the Ultimate Edition for 17 pounds and it came fully loaded. However, you can always download the core and then install programs as you need.
Anway, as I said Zorin is a pretty comfortable Linux distro for newcommers and presents an opportunity to use an OS without spending on hyped overpackaging.
