McCarthy is new Digicel PNG CEO
Maurice McCarthy has been announced as Digicel PNG’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), replacing Mr John Mangos.
According to PNG Loop, McCarthy was promoted to the role of CEO for Digicel PNG and has been a “strong advocate of the Digicel Pacific business for almost six years and is currently Regional COO.”
McCarthy, from Ireland, brings more than decade of experience and said he was thrilled to join the team as the country celebrates its fortieth year of independence. He holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Aberdeen.
Digicel Pacific’s website states that McCarthy was appointed Regional CEO responsible for Tonga, Nauru, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa markets last year.
In April 2014, Maurice was appointed Regional Chief Executive Officer with responsibility for Digicel markets in Tonga, Nauru, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa. Prior to this he held the position of Chief Executive Officer for Digicel Fiji and was very influential in building the corporate business, refining retail structure and footprint and implementing effective distribution channels.
Maurice joined Digicel in April 2009 as Head of Sales and Distribution, before being promoted to the position of Chief Operating officer. Maurice has over 13 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry holding a variety of senior positions including Sales Director and National Sales manager for Eircom. In addition Maurice spent 2 years as a consultant working for global organisations such as Novell where he received an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Novell’s Teleweb Business in Asia, Americas and Europe. Maurice received his Master’s degree from the University of Aberdeen having completed his honours Degree in London. Now residing in Fiji, Maurice originally hails from Ireland.
Meanwhile, Mangos who is credited with leading Digicel to become the number one telecommunications provider in the country and covering 96% of the population will remain with the company assisting in strategic projects in the Pacific.
